Kibera Based Activist Tom Semelang’o in Hiding as People Suspected to be State Agents are After Him

The recent political activities in the country has seen a rise in the arrest and abductions of several influential and forefront human rights activists. The government, in the attempt to quel the growing discontent and aggression from the youths, has been abducting and arresting those believed to be the key figures in organizing the peaceful demonstrations against the government.

One of the youth leaders and activist from Kibera slums in Nairobi Tom Semelango is now living in fear after receiving threats and public tipoff of possible arrest. According to confidential information from citizen assembly, he is in the radar of unknown people suspected to be State agents who are allegedly pursuing him. It is said that he is wanted over the suspicions of being among the vocal voices behind the demonstrations in the country. Many activists are being abducted and killed. Nine bodies of young persons linked with demonstrations have been found today stashed in bags dumped in Mukuru slums. The activist in the past anti government demonstrations lost everything in suspected arson attacks in Kibera. Suspected pro government youths attacked businesses in Toy and Olympic areas of Kibera that caused public condemnation and outrage.

Anti government demonstrations in Kenya got the attention of the whole world as different people across the globe were amazed and equally shocked with their bravity of challenging the government. This started off with protests against finance bill 2024 whch ended up being thrown out after deadly demonstration on 25th June which saw the youths invade parliament building and setting some parts of it on fire. The president was under pressure and even fired his entire cabinet secretaries due to increased call from Kenyans. The youths have even rejected any call for dialogue saying their demands need no dialogue but simply action.
